Men Speak Up!

On February 20, 2014 Women United brought together an all-male panel of local business leaders to discuss their perspectives as men in a gender-unequal society and what they, as men, can do about it.

Moderator: Stephen Reilly, Executive Director of the Fulbright Association. Inspired by Sheryl Sandberg’s book, Lean In, Mr. Reilly has become an advocate for bringing men into the gender equality conversation. He has a strong background in international business as well as a genuine passion for cultural and educational exchange.

Panelists:

David Dallas, Managing Partner of Williams Mullen’s Charlottesville office. He serves as general outside counsel for privately owned businesses including succession planning and business dispute resolution. Mr. Dallas is also responsible for the Equity Program at his firm.

H. Carter Myers III, Executive Chairman of Carter Myers Automotive, a family-owned group of 9 car dealerships serving Charlottesville, Richmond and Staunton. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, CMA stands out with women comprising 50% of the company’s officers and a recently awarded SWaM certification.

Donald Sundgren, Chief Facilities Officer at the University of Virginia. Since 2006, Mr. Sundgren has been responsible for construction, renovation, operations and maintenance, and provision of utilities for the University and its associated Medical Center.

The event began with a video introduction from Lean In author, Sheryl Sandberg, originally recorded for a similar Fulbright event. CLICK HERE to watch that video.
