Day of Caring – September 26
August 28, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join Women United in Philanthropy for a Day of Caring, September 26, by helping out the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Charlottesville and stand with refugees. As part of the Day of Caring, WUP will participate in a call-a-thon at the IRC to elected officials and voice your dissatisfaction with (what will likely be) a record low Presidential Determination for refugee arrivals to the US for fiscal year 2019. The Presidential Determination for fiscal year 2018 has been 45,000, but at our current pace, we will be lucky to welcome 20,000-22,000 refugees – the lowest numbers since the Refugee Act of 1980.
WUP volunteers will be provided with sample scripts, and the phone numbers for the elected officials in our region. Drop-in between 3- 6:30 pm. at the IRC (9 E Market St # 104) in the old Michie Company Building. Parking is available in the Market Street garage (first hour free). Enter at the front door on 7th Street. If after 5pm, please ring the bell.International Rescue Committee.
