2019 Human Services Grant Awards Luncheon

Women United in Philanthropy’s 2019 Grant Awards Luncheon features keynote speaker Carla Williams, Director of Athletics at the University of Virginia. The luncheon will be held at Farmington Country Club with limited onsite parking – carpooling is encouraged. We will award two grants of $30,000 each to local non-profits supporting women and children in our community. The five grant finalists are:

• PACEM,
• Piedmont Family YMCA Early Learning Center,
• The Fralin Museum of Art K-12 Education Program,
• The Front Porch – Roots and Wings Project, and
• Wildrock.

Ms. Williams will inspire us with her talk “Women in Sports Leadership in 2020”. Appointed as UVA’s director of athletics on October 22, 2017, her unique background of competing, coaching and administering at the highest levels of intercollegiate athletics at the University of Georgia, made Williams a standout candidate for her current role at UVA. During her thirteen-year tenure at University of Georgia, first as an administrator and then Director of Athletics, its athletics teams won 16 NCAA team championships and 37 Southeastern Conference titles. With this appointment, Williams became the first female African-American athletics director at a Power Five conference institution and is the fifth active female athletics director at that level.
